Re: Swank diet discussion

There are plenty of great foods that we are OK to eat on Swank. It is a great way of living. The data is simply too compelling to ignore. 200 patients, 34 years. Those that stayed on the diet lead full lives and were still walking. Those that didn't were bedridden or dead. Would you eat that cheese ...

Re: The biotin trial results are out

220 mg calcium x 20 - 40 doses per day = 4400 - 8800 mg per day which IS a big deal. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/heart-attack/expert-answers/calcium-supplements/faq-20058352 I have used the eu natural (40 x 5mg per day). It is more expensive but may be worth it to avoid the fillers.

Re: Progressive MS treatment phase III study update

Making capsules seems like a lot of aggravation to me, especially since I am taking 20 daily 10 mg doses. I read that the half life of d-biotin is 2 hours. Seems like 3x daily might not be enough.

Re: The biotin trial results are out

I have settled on natures bounty. Key for me:

- "as d-biotin@ on the label
- doesn't contain calcium (20 - 40 x 66 - 220 mg is too much)
- $50 per month at 200 mg per day

Re: Progressive MS treatment phase III study update

I understand your point COB, but the exercise I get via the OLS is a fraction of my total exercise which has already reached a steady state. The incremental exercise the left leg is getting is also the same as what the right is getting. It seems plausible that there could be remyelination beginning ...

Re: The biotin trial results are out

I agree with you in principal - though Med-Day has been granted a patent for use of 50 - 700 mg d-biotin for treatment of MS or stroke.

Re: The biotin trial results are out

Those with open minded pcp can probably get a script filled for d-biotin at a compounding pharmacy. Have them write it for nerve damage or balance or for some symptom. If they write it for ms it may expose the pharmacy to patent infringement charges. One reason I prefer good otc d-biotin is because ...

Re: Progressive MS treatment phase III study update

There is certainly a risk of placebo effect. Regarding the excercise aspect of the 1 leg stand I would say it's minimal. I have plateaued on my workouts (excercise bike and rowing machine) and don't think significant strengthening is occurring. It could be related to technique - but why am I learnin...

Metrics for evaluating therapies

MS patients try a long list of things to slow or reverse the march of our disease. How do we know what's working and what isn't? EDSS is a crude metric that measures changes over years - but many don't have the patience to continue with things that may or may not have an impact. It seems to me that ...

Re: Progressive MS treatment phase III study update

It seems to me that more sensitive metrics may be possible if we accept that metrics have to be individualized at the edge of each patients abilities. I have been using one leg stand times to track my progress.

Re: The biotin trial results are out

I like the comment about biotin not caring whether its RRMS or SPMS. Hopefully insurance companies won't be able to insist we take one or the other (DMD or MD1003). It is unfortunate that we feel the need to classify our MS as either or when in all cases it is most likely both. I have seen SPMS pati...

Re: The biotin trial results are out

Agreed that biotin is not a cure-all. I have added it to my regimen:

- swank diet
- vitamin d3
- Padma
- cod liver oil
- exercise
- b12
- biotin (http://enhancedbiotintrial.blogspot.com/?m=1)
- NUCCA chiropractic

Re: The biotin trial results are out

Thanks for the heads up tzootsi - looks like that works out to about $60 / month at my dosing regimen (20 doses per day). Not bad.

Re: The biotin trial results are out

Of the biotins I had been using, only two were specifically d-biotin. Details here: http://enhancedbiotintrial.blogspot.com/2015/04/which-biotins.html?m=1 I read the patent and their is data on both optic neuritis and gait improvements. Why are people willing to ingest high quantities of a supplemen...

Re: Hello everyone

Chris, I was near your age (I was 29) when I was diagnosed. I want to encourage you. 12+ years I am still living a full life with a family, a job, and a variety of interests. I am very grartful for Copaxone, which has kept relapses minor. I wish I had started on the Swank diet back in 2003 because i...
