Re: Swank diet discussion

From the Swank Foundation site on fats: Your diet will consist of no more than 3 teaspoons (15 grams) of saturated fat per day. Your diet should contain a minimum of 4 teaspoons (20 grams) unsaturated fat (oil) and must not exceed 10 teaspoons (50 grams) daily. (5 grams = 1 tsp.) FATS AND OILS. Esse...

Re: Jelinek diet discussion

Most people don't want a diet, they want a pill or a shot that will keep the trouble away. Swank published research that showed patients were largely progression-free for 34 years when they were "good." No pharma product to date can make any such claim.

Re: JCV and BG-12

I am JCV+ and am switching to Tecfidera. My docs will monitor my lymphocytes. The cases of PML in Europe were with highly immunosupressed individuals and can't be solely attributed to fumarates.

Re: Worried about depression

My wife and I (15 years) are also dealing with MS (mine). We are seasons ticket holders (seahawks). I would much rather meet her at our seats than make myself miserable trying to keep up with her. Before we had a conversation about it, she practically dragged me along with her. As you know, open com...

Re: Need advice on telling others

I neither hide it nor proclaim it. Exception is work. I hide it there (claim diet is about blood pressure, really more about MS). In normal life I mention it if it comes up in the normal flow of conversations. Have considered telling HR when gait issues were mistaken for intoxication (jokingly). Nee...

Re: Need some advice

MS is tricky for relationships, but then relationships are tricky regardless. My wife and I had been married four years when I was diagnosed (2003). We had our share of struggles both before and after diagnosis, but we have struggled through most things together. Before leaving him, you should level...

Re: New to the world of MS

A completely different diet, backed by 34 years of research on dozens of patients, is the diet of Doctor Roy Swank. The bulk of patients that stayed on his diet were still walking after 34 years. His focus is on eliminating saturated fats and processed foods. Based on his (and other) research MS is ...

Re: Inosine… Again!

4 of the patients in the Penn State inosine study developed kidney stones. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you're supplementing with inosine. I am too. I dropped from 2 grams per day to 500 mg on the basis of pain in my big toes bones (possibly induced gout).

Re: Overwhelmed with supplement info!!! Advice please??

Diet is the one thing that has demonstrated a long term effect on disease progression. It isn't quite as easy as popping some supplements (which can also be helpful), but it beats the alternative. I strongly recommend reading up on Doctor Roy swank's research. The majority of patients that stuck to ...

Re: Helpless - breakingup and being diagnosed with MS

MS is one of many challenges people can face. When couples face challenges they should draw together to face the challenges with their combined strength. It sounds like you are ready to do that. Would he have gone running for the hills if the shoe were on the other foot? If not, he shouldn't expect ...

Re: An embarrassing and desperate dump of emotion - (warning

I was feeling emotional and wanting to vent when I jumped on the forum and saw your post. I can really relate to putting forward a strong front but feeling weak inside. I was diagnosed with MS in 2003. The first eight years went pretty smoothly, the last two have been a struggle. My nickname in my f...

I'm going to finish reading and reply again. The first two lines have me in tears. I can completely relate. More to follow.

Re: Have you switched to Tecfidera? Are you glad you did?

If your employer has more than 50 employees you should be able to take FMLA and you should be covered by ADA. That's in theory of course. I haven't had to tell my employer.
