Finished treatment! Heading home

Post by RedPenguins »

Hi everyone,

Just an update...

Today was Day 11 post chemo and I was discharged from IPOP. I'm done!

Well, tomorrow - Friday morning - I will have the Hickman removed....and I'm flying home on Saturday morning.

Knocking on wood that nothing changes, I pretty much sailed through this process. I can't believe it. I still don't believe I had chemo. It is unreal. My hair is finally starting to fall out (when I run my hands through it, hair comes out in small clumps).

Now we wait and see what happens with the MS. :)

Good luck to anyone considering this.

BTW, I feel like putting a disclaimer on here - results somewhat atypical for me. LOL. I've met many people here having the treatment, and all have had bad days of sickness for the chemo or after-effects days later. Most did not get released from the hospital in 4 days (on the last day of treatment)...and one who did, ended up back in the hospital less than a week later. However, everyone is doing well enough now...and recovering. Barb is still in the hospital and feeling the chemo....but hopefully she will be out soon and on the way to recovery.

Kyle,

Sometimes you can develop an infection that requires IV antibiotics...or if you get an MS flare from the infection, you can end up there. They really watch you carefully when you are here.

A fever and infection as a result of the treatment and killing of the immune system is not uncommon, and as long as treated, it is fine.

:)
